My good buddy Michael of A Tasty Pixel recently launched a new iPhone app for travelers. I just bought an iPhone 4, and I’m guilty of downloading dozens of apps without really using them, but I had a lot of fun with this one.
From the press release:
The Cartographer tightly integrates with Google’s desktop-based custom map tools, for vacation planning on a familiar, easy to use platform. The resulting maps can be effortlessly accessed and edited on the iPhone. Users can also access their custom Google My Maps offline, an essential component for leisure and business travelers alike.
Check out the snazzy video:
My thoughts: I gave the app a whirl and pinpointed some of my key locations around St. John’s, like the liquor store. It’d be a sweet thing to share with friends/travellers coming to town, so they can check out all the hidden gems (yes, I did just use that word) only recognized by locals. You get to make notes about the place you’re marking, so if you’re a huge fan of the sushi shop around the corner, tell the world. It’s a good way to see what places are worth checking out nearby.
Plus the graphics are killer, and I like the old-school appearance. Your saved files are even shown as maps stowed on shelves. Being able to access the maps offline is also kickass. And, of course, it’s fun!
For a limited time, you can try the app for a wickedly discounted price at the app store. OR be one of the first THREE people to leave a comment, and I’ll give you a free promo code! Chicka-yeah.
