Contest Alert! Win a Sexy Waterproof Camcorder

I’ve partnered up with Air Transat to kick off my very first contest! I like free stuff. You like free stuff. Let’s get it started.

First of all: Air Transat has their very own sweet contest dealio going on, open to all Canadians. It’s called Suddenly Summer, and Air Transat Facebook Fans will be given the opportunity to win an all-inclusive 7-day trip for two to the Paradisius Palma Real in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. You’ll travel club class, get picked up at the hotel, and be spoiled with free food, drinks, activities, etc. Air Transat Suddenly Summer contest

Just go to the Facebook Air Transat fan page, and navigate to the PROMO tab. All you have to do is select a virtual seat in the virtual plane, and you’ll be entered in a random draw! Contest closes February 25th, 2011.

BUT as compensation for being so awesome, I was also invited to carry out my very own contest.

The prize? A Sanyo Waterproof Camcorder! Shhhhyeah. One for me, one for you. Waterproof. Meaning I can drop it in my beer and IT’LL STILL WORK (unless said beer is deeper than 1.5 metres, but then we have a whole different problem to worry about).

Unfortunately, this contest is open only to Canadians. Shipping fees suck.

Here’s how to enter:

1. Head over to Facebook and “like” my fan page. Let me know you’ve done so. If you’ve already done so, pat yourself on the back for being so efficient.

2. Leave a comment on this post telling me something new you’d like to see on Candice Does the World, or something you’d like to see MORE of. More Newfie language lessons? More angry rants? An advice column? No suggestion is too bizarre! Other than nude pictures. You will immediately be disqualified if you ask for nude pictures.

If your answer is legitimate, you’ll be entered into a random draw using Random.org. Winner will receive the camcorder. Simple. Draw will take place one week from now on February 22nd!

Here are the camera specs:

• Record directly to an SD or SDHC memory card
• A 5x optical zoom
• The large 2.5″ LCD rotates to make it easy to view and review images
• Face detection focuses on up to 12 faces and works with red-eye reduction to help improve still images
• Super macro shooting lets you get as close as 1cm
• Audio is recorded in digital stereo and has a noise reduction feature that helps to reduce wind noise
• Switch to manual mode for greater control with exposure correction of +/- 1.8ev
• Built-in flash with night portrait mode
• 16:9 widescreen photo setting for full-screen viewing on your compatible HDTV
• Built-in lithium-ion battery

GO!

    I liked your FB page!

Your site looks so fun! I love travel stories so I’d always like to see more of those!

  • Susan D

Hey! I’ve already “liked” your page on Facebook!

I’d like to see more pictures of the places you’ve traveled and some more fun and possibly beer fueled stories from Newfoundland and abroad.

Wish me luck!! I hope I win and we can take our cameras out for a beer fueled night out on George Street. :D

Hey Candace! PS you have been “liked” on FB, my friend;) Also, I would like to see you explore the more bizarre cuisine’s of the places you travel to, and document your experiences via video or photo, for all our viewing pleasure! Research the background to local delicacies or investigate strange but traditional dishes. Talk to local folk who can take you to the best place in town, and then tell all of us curious folk. Thanks!

I’ve liked you on Facebook. Still like you actually… Just on FB ;)
I’d love to see more (yes even more) about Newfoundland. I’m planning an eastern Canada roadtrip over the summer, and I’ve learned more about it from your posts than anywhere else…

  • http://www.roadtripwithreason.ca Becky

    …..nude pictures?

    JOKING! Don’t disqualify me.

I think while you’re hanging out in your province, you should do video features on the hot spots of Newfoundland – what to see/do/eat. Perhaps try to connect up with whoever is responsible for promoting tourism in Newfoundland – could be a sweet gig. Plus it’s always the best to have a youthful/local perspective…. could you do this prior to July? Perfect, thanks! Haha.

I liked your FB page! heck I’m an Admin!! (oh shit does that mean I can’t win? I better be able to win!! :( )
I want to see more of Candice Traveling stories! I want her to get off her butt and go out exploring the world and work as she goes! Surely that $60 in her pocket can get her to the ferry terminal where she could sneak on a bus or transport truck for free passage to the mainland and “keep on truckin’” from there!?!?
    What do you think!?

  • Steph M

I have already LOVED your facebook page…and you. I think you should have a weeklyfan question and answer advice column, get fans of your page to email you questions on travel, love, life, etc and you can do a weekly blog answering them.
    You rock.

  • http://www.recommendeddailydose.com Kate

Wow…this is a huge deal!! Congrats. What if I’ve been to Canada and I plan on moving to Canada in the next 150 years? Does that count?

  • http://trustmaggie.wordpress.com/ maggie

pretty sure i was one of the first people to ‘like’ yer facebook page. pretty sure i’ve requested more newfie language lessons repeatedly. pretty sure my photos/knowledge/ideas have helped you out numerous times already. PRETTY SURE I SHOULD BE ENTERED IN THIS CONTEST AUTOMATICALLY.

    but, y’know, whatever, I’ll play along…

I want more food posts. Please and thank you.

Also, wouldn’t mind some bucket list posts – write about the places you wanna get to. never know, right person might see it and hook you up. NEVER KNOW.

It’s about time we had a Canada-only contest!

I would love to see more stuff from Newfoundland, especially video – and I swear I’m not sucking up because the prize includes a camcorder.

  • http://www.allthatispretty.ca Erin

I’m a huge fan of your blog (and FB page). I love seeing Canadian content sites, giving us a voice in the wide wide world of web! I would LOVE to see some more Newfie language lessons and some advice columns on how to leave Canada and the cold winters behind! (feel free to post some angry rants about ice, snow, -40 degree weather, etc.)

ps – I am moving to Africa in the summer for two years and would love a camera to be able to send some videos home for the family!

  • Jessica

Ahahahaha I cracked up when I read the last part. I too recently won a waterproof camcorder (at a work xmas party)! Many fellow employees remarked on how it will be so great for when I travel. I’m like yeah so it doesn’t break when I spill my drink on it because that is way more likely to happen then me actually remembering to use it in the freakin’ water! Alas I don’t need to enter this contest because I was already lucky enough to win one and ummmm well I don’t qualify anyways but it does remind me that since I enjoy reading your blog I should probably click my lazy ass over to fb on like your page too!!!

  • Marc Sferrazza

Please enter me in your contest! So you wanted a suggestion EH? Well since you also have a camera then you should put it to use. What’s the best possible thing you could do with a waterproof camera. Ummm…go SURFING in Tamarindo, Costa Rica!

Points for being the first guy?

Seeing as you have a new camcorder, I’d like to see some video up in this mofo. Preferably underwater footage. Of course nothing deeper than 1.5 meters.

(and yes, the likeage of your Facebook page has happened)

  • http://travelerahoy.wordpress.com Alouise

This is an awesome first contest. And being that it’s only for Canadians I feel like I’m a member of some special club, eh.

Yes anyway I’ve already liked your facebook page. As for content I always enjoy reading anything on your blog. But I vote for more posts on Newfoundland, because it seems like such a unique part of Canada. I’m sure you’ve single-handedly inspired a lot of wanderlust in people to go to Newfoundland.

  • http://corn-bean.com linlah

I’ve done all that other stuff but I’m not sure my Canadian citizen application will be processed before the contest deadline.

    Drats, foiled again.

  • http://www.hikebiketravel.com Leigh

I already liked you on Facebook but I actually really like you so more brownie points.

How about interviews with people who make the Screech , or a rising star who specializes in Newfoundland photography or an interview/video affair with one of the famous Newfie writers.

Newfie food would definitely be of interest. Hidden places to see that most people would never get to?

I’m glad you get a camcorder too. Life isn’t all bad.

  • Melanie Raby

Great contest! I ‘liked’ you on Facebook.

I would like to see more blog posts on St. John’s – the best bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. I am planning a trip out east (I’m from Ontario) and want to know all the best places to go in St. John’s!

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your blog. It is so fun to read!

  • Jen

I would love more Newfie language lessons :) So much fun!

  • http://inseansopinion.com Sean

    I’ve liked your page!

As for what I’d like to see? More awesome photos! That means more travel too, but pics from home are great too.

  • Meghan

I think you should go on some more adventures with Cailin and write about that.

  • http://jamieknight.ca Jamie

Liked you on facebook already. Keep up the entertaining travel stores. Always like seeing and reading articles about back home and would love to see more posts on some of the smaller but still unique and cool communities outside of St Johns.

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Lol, guys, I’m LOVING your comments. Thanks for entering, I’m seriously taking all these suggestions to heart. You rock!

  • http://www.seattlestravels.com Seattle Dredge

I liked your fb. And I entered the AirTransat contest!

I vote you do a Canadian tour. All the way across. Your home, to Vancouver. But stop off here in Toronto :]
