Epic Roadside Signs: The Dildo Trading Post, Newfoundland

Carlo posted this photo not too long ago on Confronting Love, but a recent blog post by The Basement Geographer made me think I should share it too. On my Cross-Canada trip, I whipped out my iPhone more than a few times to show people this sign. I think I even convinced one or two people to come visit just for the photo opp alone.

I first saw this sign enroute to Gros Morne, and later made my cousin pull over so I could take a photo. Never mind the giant water tank featuring “Come by Chance,” this one takes the cake. Seriously, I wish I could see the look on the guys’ faces as they erected this baby (pun not intended).

Why yes, let’s just trade dildos. Oh, Newfoundland…your quirky charm is endless.

I love the Newfie signs – and the place names too. Fun post.
Happy birthday too. If you feel old halfway to 50 , imagine how I feel more than halfway to 100!

    Well, let’s see… I’ve got a few nickels and a stick of Hubba Bubba…
not sure how that would work out with the conversion / exchange rates and everything…

So many of my friends who travelled to Newfoundland get a photo of or with the Dildo town sign… I don’t understand why no one goes for this one instead, it’s just that much funnier! ;D

Classic….another one of my favourite from driving toward Cape Bonavista were the signs letting us know that this is…..
    BIG Triangle Pond
    followed by;
    LITTLE Triangle Pond
and then just up the road:
    Three Corner Pond

What? Are there no ROUND ponds in Newfoundland?!? Lol….

On the topic of “what were they thinking???” is the existence of a job title at our company. This person was in charge of the vault of drawings and had to create new copies of these drawings for various engineers. Her job title, for many years, was: Reproduction Coordinator.

    I shit you not.

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

BAAHAHA! Yes! I forgot about that one. So awesome.

Reproduction Coordinator. Oh my god. What a title!

  • Jim

    Yes. It’s in Pennsylvania.

    It’s in Newfoundland, Canada.

  • natasha

haha I always mention that everytime I drive past those ponds… the first time I was expecting them to be followed by Obtuse pond, Acute pond & Irregular pond
