14 Favourite Instagram photos from a year of travel

Instagram is an awesome app for the photographically-incompetent, such as myself. All you need is a smartphone, some imagination, and a few good followers…the filters will take care of the rest.

But even though these photos are edited, I’m impressed by the layers of colours and those perfect little snapshots. And I swear, I’m finally getting the hang of the manual settings on my DSLR. I SWEAR.

Here are some of my favourite images from a year of travel.

St. John's, autumn is totally your colour

And so the curtain falls on Twillingate, Newfoundland

The only Sei whale skeleton in Canada, at Prime Berth Heritage Centre

Who the fuck brings a Sharpie to the bathroom? At Christian's, on George Street, St. John's

Cabot Tower, St. John's

This is Newfoundland.

The Narrows, as seen from my bedroom.

Newfoundland staples. Not shown here: India.

Something about this just works. Stanley Park, Vancouver

Ah, the Canadian Rockies.

Rockies Part II.

I haven't met Jo's daughter yet, but it was lovely seeing my BFF on a stopover in Halifax.

This guy lives in the Battery before the Signal Hill trail. I think his name is Norbert.

I love the moose/ice cream look. “What? Yea, it’s a giant moose. No big deal…”

Does Newfoundand have lots of large monuments? In Alberta you can’t trip over a huge pierogi without running into a giant easter egg.

Love these, particularly the one that “just works” and you’re totally right–it just does! P.S. I am not a spammer. :-)

Ooooh.. lovely photos! Especially liked the bedroom view of the Narrows, and the photo of the fjord. :)

Love them all! It’s great going back through old phone-photos from the year.. especially when they involve travel. I actually just signed up for instagram yesterday, so I look forward to a day when I can look back at the images too :D

    Lovely photos :) <3
I especially enjoy the moose one! ;D

Gorgeous! I just love the fact that they’ve all come out like old school square polaroids. :)

And Candice, thank you for inspiring us with this incredible blog! I’ve just come back from two weeks in Ontario and I absolutely LOVED it. It’s totally possible that the Trans-Canada trip you took with Cailin had something to do with the decision-making process, I ended up going everywhere by VIA rail.

So how long were you in Ottawa for? I think it’s one of those super-underrated places that a lot of people tend to skip, no doubt I’ll be writing up a biiig entry on it! Next time you go I can tell you where to find the perfect poutine. ;)

“In Alberta you can’t trip over a huge pierogi without running into a giant easter egg.” LOL!

I’ve seen one or two large moose monuments, and a giant lobster in central NL. In fact, I have a picture of me riding it…how did I forget it?!

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Hehe, thanks! Yeah I was so happy with the colours of that photo. It’s easy to take amazing snapshots in Stanley Park, though.

It was pretty awesome! The whole story is outlined in that museum, and it’s super interesting. Incredible the guy did it all by himself, too.

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

I think the fjord is my favourite. :) I was so happy to be there that day.

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Hells yeah! We be Instagram buddies!

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Hahaha, I remember you saying, “This basically sums up the whole trip”

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Awww, thanks James! That makes me SO HAPPY to hear! I’m glad you did Canada, like ALL of it. Too many people stick to the west coast. ;)

I love Ottawa too! I considered moving there for some time, until I met Montreal and took up a whole different kind of love story. Sigh. I’m looking forward to your post!

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Come on over, Anne! I’ve got a futon with your name on it

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

Hahaha, it’s easy to be creative when you live in such a ridiculous place!

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

I KNOW! I didn’t have any Instagram ones :( Sad face

  • http://www.candicedoestheworld.com Candice

    Looooove that place!

  • http://www.travelbelles.com Margo

great pics! I’m envious of iPhone instagram people as the photos seem to bring out a side of a place that really captures them. The last one of the pond fjord is my fave I think, but really like them all together!

Thanks, Margo! And I agree, sometimes traditional photography just doesn’t capture the moment the way I want it to.
